Given the dense nature of Ipe, we chose Pallmann’s solvent-based Allbase primer to bring out the wood’s rich, natural colors. Water-based primers are less effective for such dense hardwoods as they struggle to penetrate deeply, often resulting in a dull finish. Applying the Allbase primer requires expertise, as it involves multiple coats to ensure full coverage and to enhance the wood’s tone while avoiding adverse chemical reactions.
