Identifying the Problem with Textured Porcelain Tiles

We were contacted by a Hampstead homeowner who had installed textured porcelain tiles in her kitchen. Despite regular cleaning, the tiles remained dull and dirty-looking, with soil embedded into the surface texture. She wasn’t alone, others who had bought the same tile from the same supplier had also reported similar cleaning issues.

The tile supplier escalated the matter directly to the Italian manufacturer, who agreed there was a design flaw. They visited sites to inspect the problem and took full responsibility, covering the cost of all corrective work.

We were brought in to find a reliable, long-term solution that would restore the tile’s appearance and improve day-to-day maintainability in a busy kitchen environment.

Solving the Problem Through Controlled Testing

We proposed using PU Sealer by Dr. Schutz, a specialist coating that can transform the cleanliness of difficult tile surfaces. To confirm its effectiveness, we carried out a small-scale test in a high-traffic kitchen area. The tile was first deep cleaned and then sealed with a single coat of PU Sealer.

Two months later, the difference was undeniable. The sealed section of the floor looked visibly brighter and remained cleaner than the surrounding tiles, even under heavy daily use. This clear success confirmed our approach, and the client approved full treatment for the entire kitchen.

Deep Cleaning and PU Sealer Application Across 50m²

Following the successful trial, we proceeded with a full deep clean of the porcelain kitchen floor, covering approximately 50m². Using pH-neutral cleaners and mechanical agitation, we removed all embedded dirt. We then applied two coats of PU Sealer, ensuring complete coverage with the correct rollers and curing time.

The transformation was instant, the tiles looked clean, fresh, and visibly brighter. Most importantly, the surface was now much easier to maintain. What had previously been a frustrating, high-maintenance floor was now smooth, protected, and attractive. The client was thrilled with the outcome, and the manufacturer’s confidence in our solution was validated.
