Our journey with this school began some time ago when we first discovered original cork flooring hidden beneath old carpeting. Restoring it to its original glory was a project that left the client extremely satisfied. Fast forward to the school’s recent classroom renovations, and history repeated itself. Another hidden treasure of cork flooring was found under the existing carpet. Initially slated for carpet tiles, this discovery shifted the focus to cork floor restoration, a task we were more than equipped to handle.

The condition of the newly discovered cork floor was a challenge. Covered in layers of adhesive and concrete, it was barely recognizable. Despite the constraints of a tight schedule, with new furniture arriving on January 5th, and the holiday season limiting supplier availability, our team was committed to meeting the deadline.
The work ahead was immense. It involved meticulous scraping of adhesive, removal of hardened concrete, and precision in cutting new cork tiles to seamlessly match the existing floor.
The originally installed dark cork tiles were stained throughout the whole depth, and currently, no manufacturer produces them in this manner – we’ve searched extensively! Our issue arose after installing them on an uneven surface, as we needed to sand them down to achieve a flat surface. However, using pre-stained cork would have resulted in the stain being sanded off. Therefore, on this occasion, we had to install natural cork tiles, perform the necessary sanding, and then apply the stain directly on the floor and match the existing pattern.

Staining the new tiles to blend with the old was a delicate process. We had to ensure the stain didn’t bleed onto adjacent tiles meant to retain their natural colour. This required detailed handwork, making the task time-consuming but essential for the perfect finish.

The restoration process involved several steps. After the removal of the old coverings and debris, we focused on fitting the new tiles. The staining phase required careful application and blending to match the existing flooring. Once the tiles were in place and stained, we sanded the entire surface to ensure uniformity and smoothness.
Sanding was followed by the application of a high-quality lacquer. This lacquer was not just for aesthetics; it was chosen for its durability and ability to protect the cork floor from the wear and tear of daily school life. The lacquer also enhanced the natural beauty of the cork, giving it a refreshed and rejuvenated look.

I own and manage Evolve and Grow Ltd a business consultancy service specialising in small to medium sized businesses and as such see clients at home. This means that my carpets are frequently trodden on and it is obviously important that they are kept clean to provide professional image. I decided to enlist the services of Johnny Czarnota from Silver Lining Floor Care recently, to clean the hall and stair carpet. Johnny arranged to come round to quote for the job very promptly and was equally prompt in booking me in to do the job. I found Silver Lining Floor Care to be extremely knowledgeable about all sorts of areas to do with the carpet industry and they did an excellent job at a reasonable price.
In this day and age good customer service is not always easy to find and we feel it is important that it be recognised. We recently had expensive new carpets fitted. In order to empty the bathroom bin, I have to walk through my bedroom. I managed to drop the bin and contents including tube of hair dye on the new carpet. With an appointment booked for you to sort it out for me, I dropped the lid to some make up, then tried to clean it up with vanish which bleached the carpet all around it. Needless to say you sorted it all out for me, good as new and domestic dispute averted. Your customer service was excellent before, before, during and after the job was done. You responded very quickly to sort the problem out and gave me advice on what to and NOT to do if I have a problem again. I have no hesitation in recommending your services to others. Excellent prompt service to clean carpet and dry it out after a plumbing problem. Johnny even left his blower machine overnight for a couple of nights to dry out the carpet. Good to know there are still reliable people out there.

Fantastic, we didn't think Silver Lining Floor Care would get our carpets anywhere near as clean as they did (cream carpets + 2 kids = carpet hell) we have heavenly cream carpets again!
